National Emergency Medicine ST4 Recruitment

Coordinated by NHS England – North East & Yorkshire. All interviews will be held online.

Application process

NHS England – North East & Yorkshire is co-ordinating national recruitment for vacancies in ST4 Emergency Medicine across England, Scotland and Wales (including LAT posts in Scotland and Wales). We will coordinate all long/short-listing of applications, host all interviews, and make offers on behalf of all participating regions.

The Emergency Medicine ST4 Alternative Certificate of Competences is now available for applicants who’s experience is from non GMC approved posts. 

The alternative certificate can be found in the Oriel Resource Bank:

You must also evidence your ACCS Emergency Medicine Specialties by providing a letter on hospital letter headed paper confirming dates, grade and specialty for each ACCS post.

The above evidence must be attached to your application on submission.

10am on 14 November 2024 and close at 4pm on 5 December 2024. All applications must be submitted by the closing date using the Oriel recruitment system.

Before applying, please read the Emergency Medicine ST4 person specification to assess your suitability for the post.  All applicants will need to upload documentation demonstrating they have attained the necessary competence at time of application. It is very important you find out what is acceptable documentation.

Self-Assessment Verification process

Applicants will have a specified and strict seven day window to upload the evidence to back up their self-assessment score from their application.

Interview process

All interviews will be held online using the Qpercom VIDs system on the 4th or 5th of March 2025.

It is a candidate’s responsibility to ensure that they have access to equipment that is compatible with the platform, a strong Wi-Fi connection and have a contingency plan in place in case the original device or connection fails.

Post information

The expected duration of this programme is 36 months; however the actual duration may depend on the circumstances of the individual.

When applying to this specialty in this recruitment round, you will not need to give preferences of particular posts, regions, rotations, etc. at the time of applying; just complete and submit an application for the specialty. Should you be subsequently long/short-listed for interview, you will be invited to give preferences of all posts available nationally at a later stage of the recruitment round.

The Postgraduate Dean confirms that this placement and / or programme has the required educational and Dean’s approval.

Applications are equally open to those who may, either from the outset or subsequently, wish to train less than full time or job share.

Pay scales     

All trainees should be paid monthly at the rates set out in the national terms and conditions of service for hospital medical and dental staff and doctors in public health medicine and the community health service (England and Wales), “the TCS”, as amended from time to time. The pay scales are reviewed annually. Part-time posts will be paid pro-rata.
