National Oral Surgery ST1 Recruitment

(Coordinated by NHS England Yorkshire office) All interviews will be held remotely.

Information about the training programme

Oral Surgery is a specialty described by the General Dental Council (GDC) as “treatment and ongoing management of irregularities and pathology of the jaw and mouth that require surgical intervention”.

It includes the specialty previously known as Surgical Dentistry.

Application process

NHS England (Yorkshire) is co-ordinating national recruitment for vacancies in ST1 Oral Surgery across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in 2026.

The expected duration of this programme is 36 months; however the actual duration may depend on the circumstances of the individual.

The Postgraduate Dean confirms that this placement and / or programme has the required educational and Dean’s approval. Pay scales

Each nation is responsible for agreeing the pay points on their respective Dental Trainee salary scales. These are subject to change due to national contract renegotiations and annual uplifts.

Applicants should familiarise themselves with the relevant pay circulars when applying for a training position.

Salaries are not protected and can increase or decrease when moving between nations or into a more senior post (e.g. from Dental Foundation Training to Dental Core Training)

If there is any uncertainty, applicants should seek support from the local office responsible for the post regarding the starting salary for their position before they apply.
