National Oral Surgery ST1 Recruitment

(Coordinated by NHS England Yorkshire office) All interviews will be held remotely.

Information about the training programme

Oral Surgery is a specialty described by the General Dental Council (GDC) as “treatment and ongoing management of irregularities and pathology of the jaw and mouth that require surgical intervention”.

It includes the specialty previously known as Surgical Dentistry.

Application process

NHS England (Yorkshire) is co-ordinating national recruitment for vacancies in ST1 Oral Surgery across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in 2024. 

We advise all applicants to visit and read the information available on the national Oral Surgery ST1 recruitment webpage before commencing their application, including:-

Before applying please read the Oral Surgery ST1 person specification to assess your suitability for the post. Please upload all required evidence of competences to your online application form when completing the application form online. Eligibility requirements pertaining to UK Visas and Immigration are available on the Dental Specialty Training Recruitment website

The expected duration of this programme is 36 months; however the actual duration may depend on the circumstances of the individual.

The Postgraduate Dean confirms that this placement and / or programme has the required educational and Dean’s approval. The Training Programme is equally open to those who may, either from the outset or subsequently, wish to train less than full time or job share.  Applications are equally open to those who may, either from the outset or subsequently, wish to train less than full time.

The posts declared in national recruitment for commencement in September 2024 will deliver CCST training to the new 2023 GDC approved curricula.

Applicants will have a specified and strict window to upload the evidence to support their self-assessment score from their application.

Pay scales 

Each nation is responsible for agreeing the pay points on their respective Dental Trainee salary scales.  These are subject to change due to national contract renegotiations and annual uplifts.

Applicants should familiarise themselves with the relevant pay circulars when applying for a training position. 

Salaries are not protected and can increase or decrease when moving between nations or into a more senior post (e.g. from Dental Foundation Training to Dental Core Training) 

If there is any uncertainty, applicants should seek support from the local office responsible for the post regarding the starting salary for their position before they apply.

Their guidance advises you on any issues you may have such as pay scales, expenses and pay protection, providing you with the detailed support you may need.
