Information

We are expecting a high level of interest in Chemical Pathology which means that it is likely that a sufficient number of appointable applicants will remain at the end of the Round 2 recruitment process. Posts with a later start date will be offered to those applicants and any remaining posts may be filled within the same recruitment round. As a result, we may not advertise again later in the recruitment year.

Applications are invited for vacancies in Chemical Pathology training programmes at ST3 level across England, Scotland and Wales commencing from 5th August 2026.

Recruitment to this specialty in this round will be managed by NHS England - Midlands who will manage all long/short-listing of applications, host all interviews, and make offers on behalf of all participating regions.

Candidates will not need to give preferences of particular regions or posts at the time of application. Those candidates who are subsequently short-listed for interview will be invited to give preferences around the time of interview.

In 2026 all interviews will be conducted virtually via Qpercom.

A deanery or NHS England local office may offer the opportunity to train in an academic post on a programme in this specialty (academic clinical fellowship or other academic programme); but this will not be the case usually, so please check deanery/NHS England local office websites for more information.

Completion of a substantive programme in this specialty will lead to a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or a Combined Programme Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR CP).

The application window opens on Thursday 20th November 2025 at 10.00am (UK time) and closes on Thursday 11th December 2025 at 4.00pm (UK time). You will not be able to submit your application after this time. Please ensure that you have completed all the relevant sections of the application form as missing information will deem your application incomplete and it will not be considered.

You must apply via the online Oriel recruitment system. The qualifications and professional registration requirements plus other eligibility criteria can be found in the person specification. The hyperlinks tab includes a link to the person specification which details the eligibility criteria for this specialty.

Applications are equally open to those who may, either from the outset or subsequently, wish to train less than full time or job share. Please note that there is a strict application policy that applications cannot be accepted after the deadline.

It is stipulated in the person specification that certain qualifications must be completed by the ‘offer date’. In this round this date is 14th April 2026. It is also stipulated in the person specification that other criteria must be completed by the ‘advertised post start date’. In this round the date is 5th August 2026. If you are not able to complete the outstanding area(s) by these dates, where applicable, your application will not be able to progress.

Further details on the recruitment process including indicative vacancy numbers will be available on the East Midlands website by the time that applications open.
