Information
The Royal College of Radiologists & NHS England (NHSE) London Recruitment are coordinating the national process for recruiting trainees into Clinical Radiology ST3 posts.
This advert is recruiting to posts at ST3/LAT3 level, and the expected duration of this programme is 3 years; however, the actual duration may depend on the circumstances of the individual. The posts advertised in this vacancy are only available to applicants who are able to start from August 2026.
Clinical Radiology involves the use of imaging to diagnose, treat, and monitor various disease processes. Rapid advances in technology and our understanding of disease features on diagnostic images have enabled imaging to be used at increasingly earlier stages of the diagnostic process. Likewise, changes in disease characteristics during treatment can be detected through imaging, which is frequently used to monitor progress.
Clinical Radiologists are medical specialists who provide a diagnostic imaging service to patients referred to them by family practitioners and hospital doctors. Not only do radiologists use imaging techniques to monitor disease processes and guide patient management, but they also perform minimally invasive interventional procedures such as drainages, embolisations and radiofrequency ablation of tumours.
Applications are equally open to those who may, either from the outset or subsequently, wish to train less than full time or job share.
Please note that there is a strict application policy that applications cannot be accepted after the submissions deadline.
Applicants who wish to apply must not already hold an NTN in Clinical Radiology.
Guidance
The national Clinical Radiology ST3 Person Specification is found here (https://medical.hee.nhs.uk/medical-training-recruitment/medical-specialty-training/person-specifications/person-specifications-2026/clinical-radiology-st3-2026). Please ensure you check the specialty guidance carefully. You must also read the general Specialty Recruitment applicant handbook before applying to ensure you have understood the application process, and all relevant documentation that you will need to submit especially relating to competencies.
For those experiencing difficulties when uploading competency documentation, please ensure you contact the team via the PGMDE Support Portal.
There are national changes to the recruitment process in relation to GMC eligibility and maximum application limits and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) interviews.
Please review the specialty specific person specification regarding registration and right to work for details of GMC eligibility at point of application.
You will be required to complete a self-assessment as part of your Oriel application. Invites to upload evidence will happen once the application window closes.
You must justify the self-assessment achievements you claim on your application form. Please note once your application is submitted you cannot amend anything, so check your application carefully before you submit. If you self score a 0 your application will be withdrawn.
The upload system is Qpercom. Detailed instructions on how to upload will be provided by the team when you are invited to submit your supporting evidence.
Please ensure your documents are ready to upload when the evidence submission window opens. The document upload window is available to view on the recruitment timeline on the Medical Training Recruitment website. It is very important that applicants adhere to 2026 Clinical Radiology ST3 Self-assessment Guidance.
Once the evidence upload window has closed, if you have not pressed finish and submit, or you have uploaded no evidence your application will be withdrawn.
Longlisting
Longlisting will be carried out during December and January, your application may be progressed to longlisted to allow us to open the evidence application portal to allow you to upload evidence, however, we will continue to longlist all applications and we will notify candidates once longlisting has been completed
Shortlisting Process
Shortlisting will be carried out by verifying candidates’ self-assessment of their achievements against a defined matrix. You must read the 2026 Clinical Radiology ST3 Self-assessment Guidance when completing your application form. Those progressing to the shortlisting stage will be required to upload evidence to support their claims.
Any candidate who self scores 0 on all domains will have their application withdrawn. Depending on the number of applications received against interview capacity available, the unverified self-assessment score may be used as a tool to identify applicants to progress to the verification of the portfolio stage, with a cut off score being implemented.
In the event that the number of verified applicants still exceeds the interview capacity, the self-assessment verified scores will be used to create a rank that will be used to shortlist applicants who will be invited to the interview stage.
