The competition ratio for Emergency Medicine ST4 training posts in 2025 was 1.46:1. 104 applications were made for 71 posts. This is an increase in the competition level compared to 2024 when 130 applications were made for 99 posts (a competition ratio of 1.46:1).

In 2025 there were 71 Emergency Medicine ST4 posts compared to 99 posts in 2024. A decrease of 28 posts.

The competition ratio for Emergency Medicine ST3 training posts in 2025 was 0.82:1. 9 applications were received for 11 posts. This is a decrease in the competition level compared to 2024 when 217 applications were made for 25 posts (a competition ratio of 8.68:1).

In 2025 there were 11 Emergency Medicine ST3 posts compared to 25 posts in 2024. A decrease of 14 posts.

Please note: This table excludes data for Emergency Medicine ST3 (DRE-EM) (Defined Route For Entry into Emergency Medicine). The competition ratio for Emergency Medicine ST3 (DRE-EM) training posts in 2025 was 11.32:1. 283 applications were made for 25 posts. This is an increase in the competition level compared to 2024 when 23 applications were made for 20 posts (a competition ratio of 1.15:1) (NB: I suspect this could be an error in the data published on the specialty training website but perhaps not, it could be that applications dropped from 241 in 2023 to 23 in 2024, and then rose to 283 in 2025).
