The competition ratio for Core Psychiatry Training CT1 training posts in 2025 was 21.83:1. 10,677 applications were made for 489 posts. This is an increase in the competition level compared to 2024 when 4,650 applications were made for 492 posts (a competition ratio of 9.45:1).

In 2025 there were 489 Core Psychiatry Training CT1 posts compared to 492 posts in 2024. A decrease of 3 posts. 

During the application process applicants may be able to choose to apply to run-through specialty training programmes in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or Psychiatry of Learning Disability. These would ST1 posts rather than CT1. The competition ratios for these ST1 options are not published separately on the Medical Specialty Training website.
