Specialty Training Fill Rates - West Midlands

In 2024 95.1% of the 1,131 posts available in the West Midlands were filled. This is an increase in the fill rate compared to 2023 when 93.47% of 1,103 posts were filled.

At CT1/ST1 level 99.75% of 813 posts were filled (811 filled posts, 2 unfilled posts). This is an increase compared to 2023 when 98.28% of 814 CT1/ST1 posts were filled (800 filled posts, 14 unfilled posts). 14 out of 16 CT1/ST1 specialties (87.5%) filled all their posts, with 2 specialties having unfilled posts – Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, General Practice and Public Health Medicine Dual CCT Programme (an increase compared to 2023 when 10 out of 16 specialties (62.5%) filled all their posts).

At ST3 level 83.8% of 142 posts were filled (119 filled posts, 23 unfilled posts). This is an increase compared to 2023 when 73.64% of 129 ST3 posts were filled (95 filled posts, 34 unfilled posts). 20 out of 25 ST3 specialties (80%) filled all their posts, with 5 specialties having unfilled posts – Intensive Care Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, Medical Ophthalmology, Clinical Oncology, Immunology (an increase compared to 2023 when 17 out of 24 specialties (70.83%) filled all their posts).

At ST4 level 84.09% of 176 posts were filled (148 filled posts, 28 unfilled posts). This is a slight decrease compared to 2023 when 85% of 160 ST4 posts were filled (136 filled posts, 24 unfilled posts). 11 out of 18 ST4 specialties (61.11%) filled all their posts, with 7 specialties having unfilled posts – Anaesthetics, Palliative Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Psychiatry, Genitourinary Medicine, General (Internal) Medicine, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (an increase compared to 2023 when 11 out of 23 specialties (47.83%) filled all their posts).
