Specialty Training Fill Rates - Wessex

In 2024 90.97% of the 465 posts available in Wessex were filled. This is a slight increase in the fill rate compared to 2023 when 90.33% of 393 posts were filled.

At CT1/ST1 level 99.37% of 316 posts were filled (314 filled posts, 2 unfilled posts). This is a slight decrease compared to 2023 when 99.63% of 267 CT1/ST1 posts were filled (266 filled posts, 1 unfilled post). 11 out of 13 CT1/ST1 specialties (84.62%) filled all their posts, with 2 specialties having unfilled posts – ACCS Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology (a decrease compared to 2023 when 13 out of 14 specialties (99.63%) filled all their posts).

At ST3 level 85.07% of 67 posts were filled (57 filled posts, 10 unfilled posts). This is a slight decrease compared to 2023 when 85.19% of 54 ST3 posts were filled (46 filled posts, 8 unfilled posts). 12 out of 17 ST3 specialties (70.59%) filled all their posts, with 5 specialties having unfilled posts – General Surgery, Clinical Oncology, Intensive Care Medicine, Chemical Pathology, Emergency Medicine (ACCS) (a decrease compared to 2023 when 13 out of 17 specialties (76.47%) filled all their posts).

At ST4 level 63.41% of 82 posts were filled (52 filled posts, 30 unfilled posts). This is an increase compared to 2023 when 59.72% of 72 ST4 posts were filled (43 filled posts, 29 unfilled posts). 7 out of 16 ST4 specialties (43.75%) filled all their posts, with 9 specialties having unfilled posts – Gastroenterology, Psychiatry, Neurology, Geriatric Medicine, Acute Internal Medicine, Palliative Medicine, Emergency Medicine, General (Internal) Medicine, Genitourinary Medicine (an increase compared to 2023 when 7 out of 18 specialties (38.89%) filled all their posts).
