Specialty Training Fill Rates - South West

In 2024 95.15% of the 866 posts available in the South west were filled. This is an increase in the fill rate compared to 2023 when 94.83% of 889 posts were filled.

At CT1/ST1 level 98.94% of 663 posts were filled (656 filled posts, 7 unfilled posts). This is a slight decrease compared to 2023 when 99.07% of 648 CT1/ST1 posts were filled (642 filled posts, 6 unfilled posts). 14 out of 17 CT1/ST1 specialties (82.35%) filled all their posts, with 3 specialties having unfilled posts – Public Health Medicine, Histopathology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (a decrease compared to 2023 when 12 out of 14 specialties (85.71%) filled all their posts).

At ST3 level 86.96% of 92 posts were filled (80 filled posts, 12 unfilled posts). This is an increase compared to 2023 when 83.33% of 120 ST3 posts were filled (100 filled posts, 20 unfilled posts). 15 out of 22 ST3 specialties (68.18%) filled all their posts, with 7 specialties having unfilled posts – Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery, Clinical Oncology, Haematology, Intensive Care Medicine, Medical Oncology, Chemical Pathology, Emergency Medicine (ACCS) (a slight increase when comparing percentages to 2023 when 17 out of 25 specialties (68%) filled all their posts).

At ST4 level 79.28% of 111 posts were filled (88 filled posts, 23 unfilled posts). This is a decrease compared to 2023 when 83.47% of 121 ST4 posts were filled (101 filled posts, 20 unfilled posts). 7 out of 16 ST4 specialties (43.75%) filled all their posts, with 9 specialties having unfilled posts – Psychiatry, Acute Internal Medicine, Renal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Neurology, Palliative Medicine, General (Internal) Medicine, Genitourinary Medicine (a decrease compared to 2023 when 13 out of 24 specialties (54.17%) filled all their posts).
