Specialty Training Fill Rates - North West

In 2024 97.17% of the 1,345 posts available in the North West were filled. This is a slight decrease in the fill rate when comparing percentages to 2023 when 97.77% of 1,347 posts were filled.

At CT1/ST1 level 99.41% of 1,014 posts were filled (1,008 filled posts, 6 unfilled posts). This is slight decrease in percentages  compared to 2023 when 99.71% of 1,033 CT1/ST1 posts were filled (1030 filled posts, 3 unfilled post). 12 out of 17 CT1/ST1 specialties (70.59%) filled all their posts, with 4 specialties having unfilled posts – General Practice, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, General Practice and Public Health Medicine Dual CCT Programme (a decrease compared to 2023 when 12 out of 15 specialties (80%) filled all their posts).

At ST3 level 93.51% of 154 posts were filled (144 filled posts, 10 unfilled posts). This is an increase compared to 2023 when 85.23% of 149 ST3 posts were filled (127 filled posts, 22 unfilled posts). 22 out of 27 ST3 specialties (81.48%) filled all their posts, with 5 specialties having unfilled posts –  Clinical Oncology, Intensive Care Medicine, Medical Oncology, Occupational Medicine, Chemical Pathology (an increase compared to 2023 when 19 out of 28 specialties (67.86%) filled all their posts).

At ST4 level 87.57% of 177 posts were filled (155 filled posts, 22 unfilled posts). This is a decrease compared to 2023 when 96.97% of 165 ST4 posts were filled (160 filled posts, 5 unfilled posts). 13 out of 17 ST4 specialties (76.47%) filled all their posts, with 4 specialties having unfilled posts – Renal Medicine, Acute Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Genitourinary Medicine (a slight decrease in percentages compared to 2023 when 18 out of 23 specialties (78.26%) filled all their posts).
