Specialty Training Fill Rates - North East

In 2024 97.58% of the 620 posts available in the North East were filled. This is an increase in the fill rate compared to 2023 when 92.25% of 590 posts were filled.

At CT1/ST1 level 99.5% of 448 posts were filled (446 filled posts, 2 unfilled posts). This is a very slight decrease in percentages compared to 2023 when 99.52% of 419 CT1/ST1 posts were filled (417 filled posts, 2 unfilled posts). 15 out of 16 CT1/ST1 specialties (93.75%) filled all their posts, with 1 specialty (General Practice and Public Health Medicine Dual CT Programme) having unfilled posts (an increase compared to 2023 when 13 out of 14 specialties (92.85%) filled all their posts).

At ST3 level 92.86% of 70 posts were filled (65 filled posts, 5 unfilled posts). This is a decrease compared to 2023 when 94.98% of 299 ST3 posts were filled (284 filled posts, 15 unfilled posts). 14 out of 19 ST3 specialties (73.68%) filled all their posts, with 5 specialties having unfilled posts – Clinical Oncology, Emergency Medicine (ACCS), Chemical Pathology, Diagnostic Neuropathology, Occupational Medicine (the same fill rate compared to 2023 when 14 out of 19 specialties (73.68%) filled all their posts).

At ST4 level 92.16% of 102 posts were filled (94 filled posts, 8 unfilled posts). This is an increase compared to 2023 when 87.25% of 102 ST4 posts were filled (89 filled posts, 13 unfilled posts). 10 out of 15 ST4 specialties (66.67%) filled all their posts, with 5 specialties having unfilled posts – Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Acute Internal Medicine, Genitourinary Medicine (a decrease compared to 2023 when 16 out of 20 specialties (80%) filled all their posts).
