In 2024 95.53% of the 872 posts available in Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS) were filled. This is an increase in the fill rate compared to 2023 when 93.7% of 810 posts were filled.

At CT1/ST1 level 99.67% of 605 posts were filled (603 filled posts, 2 unfilled posts). This is an increase compared to 2023 when 99.14% of 580 CT1/ST1 posts were filled (575 filled posts, 5 unfilled posts). 10 out of 12 CT1/ST1 specialties (83.33%) filled all their posts, with 2 specialties having unfilled posts – Core Surgical Training, Obstetrics and Gynaecology (a slight decrease if comparing percentages to 2023 when 11 out of 13 specialties (84.62%) filled all their posts).

At ST3 level 97.8% of 91 posts were filled (89 filled posts, 2 unfilled posts). This is an increase compared to 2023 when 85% of 80 ST3 posts were filled (68 filled posts, 12 unfilled posts). 11 out of 13 ST3 specialties (84.62%) filled all their posts, with 2 specialties having unfilled posts – Intensive Care Medicine, Medical Oncology (an increase compared to 2023 when 9 out of 12 specialties (75%) filled all their posts).

At ST4 level 80.11% of 176 posts were filled (141 filled posts, 35 unfilled posts). This is an increase compared to 2023 when 77.33% of 150 ST4 posts were filled (116 filled posts, 34 unfilled posts). 8 out of 14 ST4 specialties (57.14%) filled all their posts, with 6 specialties having unfilled posts – Psychiatry, Neurology, Acute Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, General (internal) Medicine (an increase compared to 2023 when 11 out of 20 specialties (55%) filled all their posts).
